I am Kit Jon French, a passionate guitarist and craftsman living on the Rame Peninsular, Cornwall. I grew up in Cornwall and worked as a wooden boat builder but my heart has always been music and especially musical instrument making. I have been restoring, designing and building guitars and stringed instruments for a living since 2009. I also play guitar, write and perform with three bands in the area including a diverse range of music.
My workshop has been based in the Saw Mill at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park since May 2016. I feel at home in a beautiful and historic setting which has easy access for my customers from Cornwall, Devon and further afield.
I am inspired by high quality woodwork and craftsmanship that combine form and function in equal quantities. I am always developing my own bespoke range of high quality guitars. I have a strong sense of the importance of using ethically sourced components in my work. I always use the best quality materials and hardware for my guitars to achieve optimum sound and aesthetics.
I offer a repair service alongside my custom builds. I am happy to diagnose guitar problems and suggest a possible course of action after a consultation with both the owner and the instrument.
I have always been conscious of the impact of using sustainably sourced woods, especially in this industry. I take every opportunity to repurpose materials or choose ethically sourced components. I have recently been to Belize as part of a rainforest conservation project. I was researching woods for use in my guitars as well as raising awareness about the sustainability of the exotic woods trade, watch this space.
