Kate Williams Weaving
Kate Williams Weaving studio is upstairs at the Barrow Centre in a room with a fantastic view of the park. The studio is a lovely colourful place full of exciting textures just begging to be touched. Usually you will find Kate at one of the looms making. Kate will explain what she is working on and how the looms work. There is even a loom to have a quick go on. This is your chance to get close to weaving.
Kate brings a mix of inspiration and inventiveness to her weaving. Her weaving must have depth and life. The more challenging the structure of the weave is the better. Colour plays an important part in creating the emotional response she seeks.
Every piece is designed and made on site in the studio. The looms are totally hand-powered…each strand of yarn is threaded by hand…each row of weaving is thrown by hand. Kate has been designing, weaving and in business for the last 15 years.
Talk to Kate about commissioning a piece of weaving. Perhaps you would simply like a scarf in a different colour or possibly you have a grander design in mind for an item you just cannot find in the shops.
Kate aims to make customers feel they own a special textile lovingly created to give them pleasure.
The studio is also a shop where many examples of Kate’s work are available to buy as well as yarn-related craft supplies for those who want to try something new and the cutest textiles there are…the Jellycats.
