The Rame peninsula, known to locals as ‘the forgotten corner of Cornwall’, and Mount Edgcumbe Country Park (865 acres of parkland, woods and rocky beaches), is truly glorious.
Please note that due to a devastating fire in the Barrow Centre in 2025, this property is undergoing extensive renovation and will be unavailable to rent until 2027.
The Earls of Mount Edgcumbe improved and planted the estate over hundreds of years leading to the creation of one of the most diverse and magnificent Grade I Listed landscapes in the UK.
Horseshoe Cottage is a split-level two bedroom apartment found in the bustling Barrow Centre, next to the main house.
Built in the 1900s, the Barrow Centre buildings have been renovated over the past decade to include artisan workshops and the Farriers cafe (behind the apartment); all the delights of the Country Park are right on your doorstep.

You can't stay at Horseshoe Cottage without falling in love with the beauty and history of Mt Edgcumbe Country Park. It's a complete break from the push and shove of everyday life. The cottage is spacious and comfortable and a lovely base to explore this quiet corner of Cornwall. The views, walks, wildlife and formal gardens are wonderful and we found all the estate staff and volunteers very friendly and informative. The 'rebuilt' House is a great visit and unlike some 'stuffy' old stately homes provides for younger guests really well. There aren't too many big shops locally but this all adds to the charm and an online supermarket order done before we arrived sorted out our grocery needs for the week. We enjoyed trips to Looe for a good family beach, the Cremyll foot ferry to Plymouth and the Eden Project but actually quality time spent simply on Mt Edgcumbe was our favourite thing. We'd go again in a heartbeat!

We had a lovely stay in the cottage. So relaxing to walk the gardens and enjoy the views. Plenty to see and do without even getting in your car. The disc golf course is an amazing way to enjoy the property and get a pro game on!

Horseshoe cottage is the perfect place to go de-stress. The peace and tranquility are second to none. An ideal property for energetic dogs, lots of varied and inspiring walks. Friendly staff who always have time for a chat and offer advice. A place we will return to when possible.
