Latest update from the Mount Edgcumbe Cricket Team

MTECC v Spitchwick Sun 12 May 2019 (home)
For the alert amongst you, you would have noticed different opposition for today’s game, long story.
A true classic game though, we scratch our way to 174 and spent 20 plus overs trying to remove their last three batsmen.
We batted first and stands of 82 between Jon (55) and Tom (27) and 44 between Dave (31) and Chris (27*) enabled us to declare on 174 for 7. Jon’s fifty came in 75 mins off 73 balls, not the fastest, but crucial in the context of the game. Dan was unluckily run out when backing up in the final overs when the ball was deflected onto the stumps by the bowler. Rob W claimed the first duck of the season, closely followed by Allan.
After tea the visitors collapsed to 41 for 7 and victory looked in our sights. However a stand of 102 balls for the eight wicket was only broken by Dan with a direct hit of the one stump he could see, revenge. Even the magic arms of Allan and Wes could not get us a wicket today. With hope of a win fading, Dan was brought back on for the last over, four dots. wicket! Last man, last ball, last chance. A strong appeal for LBW was turned down by their umpire, match drawn.
Jon claimed the first wicket keeper catch of the season and Dan picked up 3 wickets, Rob L bowled well collecting 3 wickets and Andrew’s 3 overs saw him take 2 wickets for no runs, 9 bowlers used.
